Apple is reportedly preparing to launch a wall-mounted display capable of controlling home appliances, facilitating video calls, and using artificial intelligence to navigate apps, according to a Bloomberg News report on November 12, citing sources familiar with the project.
The product, known by its code name J490, may be unveiled as soon as March and will highlight Apple’s new AI platform, Apple Intelligence.
Apple has yet to respond to a Reuters inquiry for comment.
The device could cost up to $1,000 for the higher-end version, depending on the components used, while the basic display-only model will be more affordable.
This launch comes as Apple seeks to compete with other major players in the smart home space, such as Google’s Nest Hub and Amazon’s Echo Show and Echo Hub smart displays.
Resembling a square iPad about the size of two stacked iPhones, the AI wall tablet will feature a 6-inch screen and come in silver and black. While it is a standalone device, some functions will require an iPhone, according to the report.
