Authorities have reported that at least 35 people were killed and 43 injured when a car drove into a crowd at the Zhuhai Sports Centre in China on Monday. The driver, a 62-year-old man identified as Fan, allegedly crashed an SUV through a barrier into the stadium in what police labeled a "serious and vicious attack." Local media indicated that the injured included many elderly individuals, teenagers, and children. Fan was arrested while attempting to escape but is currently in a coma due to self-inflicted injuries.
The BBC’s China correspondent, Stephen McDonnell, noted that locals seemed to try to prevent journalists from reporting at the scene.
