ISLAMABAD — A bus carrying 27 people plunged into the Indus River in northern Pakistan on November 12, resulting in the deaths of 14 passengers, as reported by Gilgit Baltistan authorities.
Twelve passengers remain unaccounted for, while one survivor sustained injuries, according to the official statement.
The incident reportedly occurred due to excessive speed, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
Local broadcaster Geo reported that the bus was part of a wedding procession traveling towards Chakwal district when it fell from Telchi Bridge in Diamer district.
Fatal road accidents are frequent in Pakistan, where traffic laws are often disregarded, and rural roads are generally in poor condition.
In August, two other bus accidents in northeastern and southwestern Pakistan claimed at least 34 lives.
